Goalie is the short term for Goalkeeper and is a player who defends the goal. 

In football the goalie is the player whose main job is to stop the ball when the opposing team attempts to score a point. The goalie in soccer is the only one allowed to grab the ball with his hands and the uniform is usually a distinctive color, different from the other players.

Goalie is the last line of defense, doing everything they can to stop the opposing team from scoring.

They are responsible for caching crosses, dealing with different types of shots, free kicks and penalties.

When a goalie does not react fast enough to the play, it results in a goal from the opponents.
